Why Join Phi Mu

Maybe you have it all figured out, maybe not. In either case you'll need friends to help you along the way. Girlfriends. Sisters. Friends committed to you through a lifetime of ups and downs. Friends who'll help you grow as a person and as a leader. Friends who'll be there when you realize that you really don't have it all figured out. Friends who'll need you to be there for them, too. You know the type. They are the girlfriends who demonstrate that BFF sort of connection with you. They are there to build you up and to be by your side as you build up others. They have a special sort of energy about them. They are vibrant. And they're looking forward to friending you at Phi Mu.

Four Reasons YOU should be a Phi Mu:

  • To Make Friends
  • To Be The Best You
  • For An Opportunity To Lead
  • Because You Like To Help Others

"The sincere and unending support I've gained from my sisters in Phi Mu is beyond words. These girls were there with love and encouragement as I worked for my acceptance into Pharmacy school and surprised me with signs when I last minute decided to compete in Miss Purdue. I originally did not believe that Greek Life was fit for me, but being a part of Phi Mu has shown me the genuine meaning of what this community has to offer." - Mary Tremaine, Senior, Miss Purdue 2017

"Phi Mu has allowed me to break out of my comfort zone so many times within these last few years. From getting a job on campus as a freshman through the recommendation of an older sister to modeling for the Purdue Fashion Show for a couple of the girls in the house, and all the crazy adventures that I’ve had in-between, Phi Mu has not only given me the courage to try new things, but it has also given me the support that I needed during my new ventures. Phi Mu attracts genuine, beautiful, passionate, and unique women. No two Phi Mus are alike, and I believe that that is the most amazing part of our sisterhood. We each have different perspectives, passions, and dreams that we share with one another that allow all of us to grow in our own ways. Through all of the good experiences and bad experiences that I’ve had in the past three years, my Phi Mu sisters have always been by my side. Going Phi Mu is easily one of the best decisions that I have ever made." - Kristin Paganelli, Alumna, Phi Mu Foundation Scholarship recipient

"I never thought that I would go Greek. As my move in date at Purdue approached I figured why not just try recruitment and see where life takes me. I had Phi Mu the first night of recruitment, and after that night I knew that I had made the right decision to rush. The following days of rush I looked forward returning to the genuine, diverse, and chill house I had experienced the first night. Once bid day arrived I was so stoked to find it out that I would be able to experience the feelings I had during recruitment for the next four years and beyond!! And boy was I right, in just one year Phi Mu as taught me so much about friendship and even myself, so who knows how much you could learn being a Phi Mu for a lifetime!!" - Sophie Hebble, Junior, Public Relations Committee member

"Phi Mu is where I found my best friends that will drive out to an empty field at 6 am to see a sunrise on a cloudy day. Phi Mu is where I found somebody as crazy as me to run a half marathon with and had sisters come down and surprise us near the end of the route when we felt like giving up." - Mikaela Skaare, Junior, Campus House attendee

"I transferred to Purdue at the start of my sophomore year. Having already joined Phi Mu at my former school, I moved into Phi Mu without knowing a single person. I was terrified about the transition and didn't think I would fit in with the girls. I couldn't have been more wrong. These girls are more amazing than I could have ever hoped for. Little did I know this would be the best decision of my college career." - Sheila Swibes, Senior, Transfer Student

"Never before college did I think that Greek Life was for me. I always believed what the media had portrayed, and I was hesitant about giving it a chance. I thought that by joining a sorority I would lose a sense of my individuality and would not get to experience growth as a person. To my surprise, my Greek life experience has been the complete opposite. Coming from a girl who never imagined herself in a sorority, to being chapter president, it goes to show how much of an impact Phi Mu has made on me. I could not imagine myself now without it. I’ve made some of best friends, not only through Phi Mu but the Greek community as a whole. Within my chapter, I get to surround myself with inspiring individuals each and every day. From Boiler Gold Rush leaders to presidents of organizations, Old Masters Committee Members, honor roll students and NASA interns…the list goes on and on. These women continuously inspire me to seek new opportunities and aspire to be the best version of myself possible. Besides joining a sorority, I’ve been able to get involved in so many outside organizations that I just don’t know if I would’ve had the confidence to pursue had I not had the loving support of my sisters. Phi Mu allows me to leave my legacy at Purdue now and forever, and for that, I am truly grateful. It’s more than just a 'chapter,' it's memories, love, support & something that will hold a special place in my heart for a lifetime." -Katie Zlajic, Senior, 2016 President

"Growing up with an older brother and only knowing Greek Life through Hollywood movies, I came to Purdue thinking sororities weren't for me. I hadn't planned on going through recruitment, but with the continuous effort from a few close friends, I signed up on the last day possible. That might've been one of the best decisions I've made. Without a single doubt, I knew Phi Mu was where I wanted to be. From the many genuine connections and conversations I had, I knew that I wanted to be surrounded by these people. From just one year, I know that Phi Mu is a place where I can truly be that weird, bright, and borderline insane version of myself and 100% own it." -Irissa Rim, Sophomore, Spring 2017 Sisterhood Development Chair
